Fatal
fire in DC
By Alan Etter
Units were dispatched at 12:57 AM for the
report of a house fire at 524 Tennessee Ave., NE. First arriving
firefighters found fire and smoke in the second floor of a two-story rowhouse.
Two victims were still inside. Firefighters tended to an elderly man, pulling
him from the smoke-filled home.
Efforts to revive the 81-year-old man were
unsuccessful. The man's 90-year-old sister was carried from the building
by firefighters Chris Holmes and Wayne Klinger.
She was treated by medics on the scene
and transported to GW. The fire was caused by improperly disposed
of smoking materials. The blaze was confined to an upstairs bedroom.employers. |
