On Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at
2004 hours, a single motor vehicle hit the front of an office building
on Delaware Avenue at the corner of Jefferson Street and spun back
onto Delaware Avenue.
The first arriving Wilmington Fire Department
units were Engine 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion Chief Farren. They found an
adult male, the driver trapped inside the van. |
 |
Wilmington Fire Departments Rescue 1 had
to use the “jaws-of-life” to cut into the drivers compartment while Wilmington
Firefighters and New Castle County Paramedics (Medic 1) worked to stabilize
the driver. The driver was conscious and suffering from multiple injuries.
Also in the car were 3 children that had
been removed and taken into an office building on Delaware Ave. There they
were treated and stabilized by (Keystone’s) PA1, PA2, PA 3 and New Castle
County Paramedics (Medic 7). |
 |
It took firefighters approximately 30
minutes to remove the trapped driver. PA2, PA3 and Medic 1 transported
the adult driver and one of the children. PA1 and Medic7 transported the
other two children.
They were all stabilized at the scene and
then taken to the Christiana Hospital and are listed in serious condition. |
