One
dies in Laurel MD fire

On January 25, 2004,
just before 4pm fire fighters from the Laurel area were dispatched to 925
Montrose Ave. in Laurel for reported house on fire. Engine 103 was
first on the scene and was told that the residents were still in the house. |

The crew from E103
extinguished the fire and searched the basement while the crew from
Squad 49 searched the first floor. Two occupants were removed from
the house and transported to the hospital. Companies on the call
were; Laurel 10, Laurel 49, Beltsville 31, Calverton 41, and Maryland City
27. |

Update: On
Monday 26 January, Prince Georges County officials released information
that Mary Evans, resident of 925 Montrose Ave., died from her injuries
she sustained in the fire. Her and her husband were rescued shortly
after fire fighters arrived on the scene. The cause of the fire has
not been determined. Damages were estimated at $35,000.00. The Laurel
Volunteer Fire Department urges all residents to check the batteries in
their smoke detectors. If you have questions or don't have a smoke
