Waldorf units were alerted for a motor vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Leonardtown Road (Route 5) and Billingsley Road. While enroute, Communications advised the responding units there were reports of subjects trapped and a possible ejection. The call was upgraded to an extrication assignment, which added a second Hurst tool and a medic unit. Engine 33 arrived on scene shortly after and found a 3 vehicle collision with one vehicle overturned.
One victim in the overturned SUV was determined to be deceased upon arrival while the other 2 occupants were in critical condition. Crews from Engine 33 and Hughesville Squad 2 worked together to quickly extricate the trapped victims using various Hurst Tool devices. MSP Trooper 7 and Park Police Eagle 1 responded to the scene to fly the critical victims to a trauma center.

In addition, 3 occupants of the other 2 vehicles were also treated and transported to local hospitals by ambulances with various non-life threatening injuries. Engine 33 and Squad 2 remained on the scene for an extended period of time to assist the Maryland State Police Accident Reconstruction Team with scene lighting. It was determined that none of the occupants in the overturned SUV were wearing seatbelts when the collision occurred. The collision remains under investigation at this time.
