Fatal Collision in Waldorf,

Waldorf units were alerted for a motor
vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Leonardtown Road
(Route 5) and Billingsley Road. While enroute, Communications advised the
responding units there were reports of subjects trapped and a possible
ejection. The call was upgraded to an extrication assignment, which added
a second Hurst tool and a medic unit. Engine 33 arrived on scene shortly
after and found a 3 vehicle collision with one vehicle overturned.
| One victim in the overturned SUV was determined
to be deceased upon arrival while the other 2 occupants were in critical
condition. Crews from Engine 33 and Hughesville Squad 2 worked together
to quickly extricate the trapped victims using various Hurst Tool devices.
MSP Trooper 7 and Park Police Eagle 1 responded to the scene to fly the
critical victims to a trauma center.
In addition, 3 occupants of the other 2
vehicles were also treated and transported to local hospitals by ambulances
with various non-life threatening injuries. Engine 33 and Squad 2 remained
on the scene for an extended period of time to assist the Maryland State
Police Accident Reconstruction Team with scene lighting. It was determined
that none of the occupants in the overturned SUV were wearing seatbelts
when the collision occurred. The collision remains under investigation
at this time. |
